I thnk i am about the last person who can say that keeping your priorities brings you happiness and fullfilment. I probably thought that keeping high standards would be easyly achieved, but then i found that if you have an idea of where you want to go ... the rd can have it's ups and downs and that you have to be prepared for those things.
Some time ago i discovered the book Texas written by my favorite auther James Mitchner. It comes to my mind in this case as an example of how those stupid priorities can destroy your peace and give you nothing back. Like in the battle of saint Alamo where everyone gets killed. Then on the contrary there is the example of the battle with the famous mexican general Sant Anna in which the Anglosaxons won Texas from the Mexicans. In Mitchners book he says thar santanna spent the crucial moments in the afternoon (of the day of the battle) sleeping with his beautiful black woman and in these delicate moments the other side could grab the opportunity to finish him off while he was enjoying his siesta.
What comes first in ones life is a cold decision to stick it out and to finish what you have started ...
but this is only a value for the "honorable" ...
